Supply chain leading practices

"Leading practice" is defined as any novel application, process, technology or people practice that enhances the efficiency or effectiveness of an organization and results in a significant, measurable change that improves performance.

The term "leading practice" as opposed to "best practice" allows us the flexibility to recognize different solutions for various phases of supply chain development.

For further information on leading practices, see the article Proven Footsteps: Leading Practices in Supply Chain Management in our December 2008 Newsletter.

One HSCN objective is to develop a collection of leading practices to provide its members with:

  • A roadmap on how to improve efficiency and effectiveness
  • Tactical information — who, what, how, timeline, costs, requirements
  • A contact network of healthcare supply chain leaders who can share their experience

How to submit a leading practice

Examples from across all stages of healthcare supply chain development are welcome.

To prepare a leading practice submission:

  1. Download HSCN_leading_practice.zip. (Right-click or Control-click to save.)
  2. You can print a PDF document describing the submission process.
    (in zipped folder: 1-Leading_practice_submission_process.pdf)
  3. You cab print an Excel worksheet with field descriptions for use as a guideline.
    (in zipped folder: 2-Leading_practice_field_descriptions.xls)
  4. Open the blank submission worksheet and save it to your hard drive. You will need to "enable macros" to use the drop down menus.
    (in zipped folder: 3-Leading_practice_submission_form.xls)
  5. Once you have begun completing the blank worksheet, save it under a different name, preferably one that identifies the name of the practice and your organization, e.g. newRFPstandard_YourHospital.xls.
  6. Send the completed worksheet to HSCN at administration@hscn.org — include the word "practice" in the subject line

If you encounter any issues in completing the template document, please contact:
